When did you first feel called to religious life? Do you remember a specific place? A person?

As a public elementary school kid just outside Denver, I voluntarily asked to go to my parish priest’s house to chat when I was in 2nd grade. Subsequent encounters with priests of every Order have inspired and propelled me, but this initial chat with Fr. Ed Buelt in 2000 planted the seed.

What's something fun / something you enjoy about living in community?

I enjoy beginning and ending each day in community grounded in God, prayer and service. One can begin each day on the train platform grounded in God, prayer and service every bit as much, but religious life makes the relationship with God sustained through prayer a communal practice and daily iterative undertaking. I love this.

What is the best kept secret / most underrated aspect of the Tradition and Spirituality of Augustine?
Augustinian Spirituality is not rigid, stuffy or exceptionally dogmatic. Modern followers of Augustine encourage excitement about the journey and the process of discovery. Restlessly searching does not make a person lost or in need of conversion. Restlessly searching in the Augustinian tradition makes them human, loved, and searching for love and deeper understanding.

Do you have a hobby / passion that you enjoy spending time on?

I love adaptive sports, handcycling, keeping in touch with friends of every religious background and number of limbs. I’m also a complete incurable movie buff, avocational fiction writer and Congressional politics nerd.
